#2 best character

#2 Homer Simpson
Can you truthfully say that you've never stated Homers classic line, "D'oh". Even though Homer isn't one of TVs brightest character, he's one of the funniest. He has an apatite that is unstoppable, "Mmmmmmm...recirculated air." and would do anything for a donut. He once balanced his children's life's for a forbidden donut. "Mmmmmmm...forbidden donut." He does things that nobody sees coming. He has hilarious relationships with the people around Springfield. And one of the funniest is with his next door neighbor Flanders.
Flanders: "How do you do it Homer? How do you silence that little voice that says think."
Homer: "You mean Lisa?"
Flanders: "No, I mean common sense."
Homer: "Oh, that! That can be treated with our good friend alcohol."
Besides donuts, one of Homer's loves is beer. "To alcohol, the cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems." There's almost nothing this character does that's not funny. And that's why he deserves a spot on my top ten.

My second favorite television character is Sam Malone. As owner of the bar where everyone knows your name, Sam was the glue that held the gang at Cheers together. Episode after episode as the great supporting cast had their sub-plots...the story always revolved around Sam and his never ending quest to conquer the female species known as...woman. To this day comedy series of today try to copy the relationship and love story that was Sam and Diane...but it was never be duplicated. The Sam and Diane plot line covered 6 years. Sit-coms of today try to emulate their relationship in 4-5 episodes. The closest comparison today is the romance of Jim and Pam in "The Office". Sam Malone was a recovering drunk and an ex-Boston Red Sox pitcher. When watching Cheers today, the plot and story lines still hold true and are as funny as ever. Cheers, and more so with Sam malone, were both very easy to like.
